Kuneva's Movement Calls for Electoral Change in Bulgaria
04/06/2012
The Citizens for Bulgaria movement headed by former EU commissioner Meglena Kuneva has called for extensive revisions of Bulgaria's election procedures to ensure more effective and fair voting. "It is high time that the votes of Bulgarian citizens get to be heard, not bought," said Kuneva. One of the leading measures proposed by the movement is the creation of a permanent electoral administration under Bulgaria's president, Novinite.com (Sofia News Agency) wrote.
Up to now, Bulgaria's elections have been organized by an ad hoc Electoral Commission appointed by the government for the given election. Kuneva also stressed on the need for a through revision of the lists of citizens who can vote to eliminate any "dead souls" who can be misused for election rigging.
