American College of Sofia Presents Perfect Location for the Celebration
AmCham 15-th celebration of July Fourth will be remembered for many reasons: we bid farewell to the Ambassador Nancy McEldowney, the American College of Sofia provided wonderful location for the event, our member companies supplied lots of food and drinks, guests won ruffle prizes, there were spectacular fireworks, and even the weather was on our side. More than 2000 guests joined the AmCham party to mark for the 15th time the Independence Day Celebration and the birthday of the United States of America with the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776 in Philadelphia.
Right at six o’clock in that evening “Georgi Robev” choir performed the American and the Bulgarian Anthems, followed by the ceremony with presenting of National Colors of the U.S. Marine Corps. In a quite moving manner the Ambassador Nancy McEldowney thanked the audience for coming to celebrate the America’s birthday and US-Bulgaria partnership, as she was given the floor by the master of ceremony David Hampson.
“Today we remember what it means to be American, and what America stands for along with its partners all over the world”, Nancy McEldowney said. The envoy reminded that America struggled for what is right and true, no matter that the country had to stumble on the path. That, in her words, is the spirit or right and true that unites us in what we do, and this is the spirit of US-Bulgaria partnership.
“It is that spirit that motivates your work every day, and what motivates AmCham in its work”, Ms McEldowney elaborated further on.
“It was an enormous honor to partner with AmCham Bulgaria and with all of you throughout the course of amazing years”, the ambassador went on saying.
Mentioning that the US Ambassador is leaving the country to take a new position in the Obama Administration, Anthony Hassiotis, AmCham President cordially thanked Nancy McEldowney for being part of AmCham community. He thanked also Tom Cangiano for hosting the event at the American College of Sofia, all the sponsors and volunteers. The AmCham President paid respect to the deputy chief of mission Alex Karagiannis and his wife Katherine Ingmanson for their work in Bulgaria as their terms have expired, and for supporting AmCham during their term. Mr. Hassiotis welcomed Susan Sutton, the new deputy chief of U.S. mission.
