The American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria extends a limited authorization to KRIB to represent AmCham’s views in the tri-partite discussions between the Government of Bulgaria, Business and the Trade Unions.

US Ambassador to Bulgaria James Warlick and AmCham President Peter Lithgow announced yesterday to the media the upcoming Ambassadors’ Business Road Show which will tour the United States from May 14-18, 2012. For the second year, the Road Show will be led by U.S. Ambassador James Warlick and Bulgarian Ambassador to the U.S. Elena Poptodorova. With stops in Austin, Los Angeles, Seattle, and Silicon Valley, the Road Show aims to further increase trade and investment between the two countries. AmCham leadership and several member companies are joining the delegation.

The business forum "Bulgaria and Turkey: Strategic Economic Partnerships" held on April 23, 2012, was organized by American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria (AmCham) in cooperation with Turkish-American Business Association (TABA). The forum provided a platform for successful bilateral business contacts and explored opportunities for accelerated development of Bulgarian-Turkish economic and trade relations, as well as improvement of the business climate between the two countries. The Forum was preceded by a visit of the Board of Directors of AmCham Bulgaria in Istanbul in early Feb. as part of the Chamber priorities for regional cooperation.

AmCham hosted for the second time this year its Meet new Members party on April 5th, 2012 at Arena di Serdica 5 star Residence Hotel in Sofia, affiliated to the FPI Hotels & Resorts chain. The hotel is strategically located in the heart of the city, right next to the main states institutions, business centers and banks, as well as to the cultural and historical places of interest in Sofia.

Already famous for its perfect organization the eighth AmCham Ski tournament will be remembered once again. This year it was held in Pamporovo on March 24 and close to 100 participants - official guests from the Presidency, diplomats, senior executives, business reps and top journalists took part in the competition and enjoyed the splendid weather and attractive awards from SLS Rossignol and AmCham member companies. It was wonderful to see AmChams in Europe so well represented and profiled at Hillary Clinton’s Global Business Conference in February 2012 in Washington DC. Overall there was an impressive gathering of US business organisation Presidents or Executive Directors representing approximately 120 countries, and around 30 European AmChams were present! AmCham Bulgaria was represented by Valentin Georgiev, executive director.

On March 2, 2012 AmCham Bulgaria hosted a business breakfast with Prof. Gary Cadenhead, MSTC Program Director and Chantal Delys, Assistant Dean and Director, Executive Education with the University of Texas, USA. The event took place at the Radisson Blu Grand Hotel. Find attached the presentation.

In an exquisite party atmosphere at the Alexander’s ball room of Radisson Blu Grand hotel downtown Sofia five new members of AmCham Bulgaria offered an insight into their company activities and why they have chosen to be the members of the chamber. Every one of the new members hosted stands with information booklets and business cards, and courteously welcomed the arriving guests.

Levon Hampartzoumian, Chairman of the MB and CEO, UniCredit Bulbank was elected at the AmCham BoD during the General Assembly meeting on Feb. 7th, 2012 held at the Radisson Blu Grand hotel. AmCham thanks the other candidate Kenneth Lefkowitz, NECA who run for the BoD as well.

More than 200 representatives of the business circles, ministers and ambassadors attended January 12, 2012 a working lunch with members of the American Chamber of Commerce and with Prime Minister Boiko Borissov. The meeting was dedicated to "Incentives for economic growth, new technologies and scientific research in Bulgaria in 2012".

AmCham Christmas party has always represented two in one combination where networking opportunities mixed with fun at yearend. This time the unique mixture formed in particular with about 1,000 guests: member companies, partners, government reps, media who gathered December 7th, 2011 at the Royal hall of the Sheraton Sofia hotel.

At its Thanksgiving community dinner on Nov. 22, 2011 AmCham in Bulgaria gathered 60 000 BGN for the projects: “Ready for Success” (scholarships for pupils and students without parents) and for “Protected Homes” project for young people leaving orphanage houses and deprived of parental care due to age of majority.

AmCham Bulgaria has set up a tradition of charity fundraising through various social events, one of them being the golf tournament held for the second time in October this year at Pirin Golf& Country Club in Bansko. The contest was kindly supported by Titan Zlatna Panega Cement. All of the fees collected at the tournament will go for charity projects of the chamber.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria (AmCham) and Bulgarian Charities Aid Foundation (BCAF) were awarded Oct. 5th in the category “Most Successful Partnership” during a ceremony “Biggest corporate donor” of the Bulgarian Donors’ Forum at the Radisson Blu Grand hotel. The prize is awarded for the AmCham-BCAF joint project “Volunteer Days” that has been held for the fourth year now.

“I am speaking before the members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria not as a presidential candidate but as a person, with whom you have worked together throughout the years, said Rosen Plevneliev on Sept. 8 during the AmCham business luncheon held at the Sheraton Sofia hotel. Several months ago the chamber invited the outgoing minister of the regional development to be AmCham guest speaker, Peter Lithgow, AmCham president said in his welcoming remarks.

“It is wonderful to see so many people at the American college of Sofia for this great event, said Susan Sutton, U.S. deputy chief of mission on behalf of the American embassy to the guests of the AmCham Independence Day celebration on July 2, 2011. Susan Sutton thanked AmCham for putting together the celebration of America’s birthday. It was the AmCham Bulgaria 17th celebration of July Fourth that made the US community feel at home. US Ambassador James Warlick joined our party later to have a word with most of the guests. Invitees included AmCham members, governmental reps, NGO-s, and artists.

Like the name they bear, the U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron "Thunderbirds" challenged the heavy rain on June 25, 2011 at the Graf Ignatievo air base with a spectacular performance before the storm. The audience was fascinated by the show of the eight elite pilots who managed to complete the most attractive maneuvers like “diamond”, “knife” and to do solo performances.
